At Unicare Community Health Center, we are committed to advocating for the well-being of our patients and the broader community. That’s why we fully support California Prop 35, the Managed Care Organization Tax Authorization Initiative (2024) on the November 2024 ballot. This critical measure promises to safeguard and enhance healthcare access for 15 million Medi-Cal patients and all Californians.

Why Prop 35?
California’s healthcare system is in crisis. Overburdened hospitals are shutting down essential services, such as labor and delivery, while emergency rooms face overwhelming demand, often leading to long wait times.

 – More than 40 hospitals have already ceased labor and delivery services, and many patients are waiting months to see a doctor or specialist. This shortage of services disproportionately affects Medi-Cal patients, including children, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and low-income families. Proposition 35 offers a solution to these challenges by extending an existing tax on health insurance companies, without increasing taxes on individuals, and dedicating those funds to healthcare.

What is Prop 35?
Prop 35 will safeguard and improve our healthcare system for 15 million Medi-Cal patients and all Californians.

– It will ensure a steady stream of revenue by extending an existing tax on health insurance companies without increasing taxes on individuals and allocating these funds specifically to maintain and expand access to care. Additionally, it will prevent the state from using this revenue for non-healthcare purposes.

What will Prop 35 do?
Proposition 35 will significantly enhance healthcare access for 15 million Medi-Cal patients while also protecting and improving care for all Californians.
– The measure ensures dedicated funding that cannot be redirected, supporting essential healthcare worker training and implementing strict accountability standards.

What will Prop 35 fund?
With Prop 35, we can expect improved healthcare services, expanded access to preventive care, and reduced wait times in emergency rooms. It will lead to more primary care physicians and community health centers, increased specialty care— including cancer, cardiology, and OB/GYN services—along with enhanced family planning options. The initiative aims to hire more first responders and paramedics to improve emergency response times, expand mental health treatment, and address workforce shortages through targeted training programs.

By voting Yes on Prop 35, Californians can ensure a stronger, more equitable healthcare system. With the dedicated funding secured, we can make significant strides in reducing wait times, expanding services, and providing the care that millions depend on.

At Unicare Community Health Center, we recognize the urgency of addressing these issues, and we stand behind Proposition 35 as a necessary step toward protecting and improving healthcare access for all. Join us in supporting this vital initiative for the future of California’s health.

Together, we can build a healthier future!

Stay informed, stay engaged, and let’s work together to make sure Prop 35 passes in 2024!
